Green is the Hottest Colour of The Rainbow!

 The Icarus Foundation has partnered with Pride Toronto to assist the annual festival become one of Canada’s most environmentally friendly festivals, and a benchmark for future international events.  Made possible through funding by Ontario’s Trillium Foundation, the goal of the project is for The Icarus Foundation to provide their expertise in greening festivals and events to Pride Toronto.  This partnership will:

• enable Pride to:

*   reduce its environmental impacts
*   educate the festivals thousands of members, festival goers,     
     sponsors and partners
*   strengthen capacity, and
*   promote a more sustainable economy and community

Canada's festivals and events makes up an important part of the tourism industry and have a substantial environmental footprint. Some event organizers are beginning to green their operations to minimize their impact on the environment, however, most initiatives are conferences or events rather than large festivals and often only focus on environmental issues.  By working with one of Canada’s marquee festivals, The Icarus Foundation intends to establish a benchmark of environmental and social sustainable good practice by which other Canadian festivals can work towards.

This announcement follows the City of Toronto being chosen as the location for World Pride, 2014 and puts Pride Toronto in an excellent position to carry the lessons implemented from The Icarus Foundation’s expertise to an international audience.
