The Icarus Foundation is the creation of six people who believe that:
- it's time for tourism to acknowledge and reduce its contrubution to the pressing issue of our time - climate change as generated by the emission of greenhouse gases;
- if tourism suppliers work creatively and collaboratively with each other and destination marketing agencies, it can create opportunities as well as solve problems. By committing to a greening of the industry, we can attract the conscious "green" consumers" associated with the higher yields needed to sustain revenue growth.
- Many aspects of Canada's tourism industry will be negatively affected by climate change - both directly and indirectly - so it pays to understand the nature of those impacts and plan to mitigate or avoid them.
